Contact Center Switch Will Frustrate Callers, Warns EEOC Chairwoman

EEOC commissioners in August voted to replace the call center, which operates on contract with Vangent, with in-house services. At the time, the commission explored a three-month extension of the call center contract to ease the transition. On Wednesday, though, the employment commissioners, on a 2-2 vote along party lines, denied the extension.

Buck Harvey: There's a party going on inside of Byrne's brain, thanks ...

Bill Byrne apologized to all Aggies on Thursday, as well as the state of Texas. He used the words "embarrassed" and "disappointed," and the tone of the A&M athletic director suggested he meant all of it.

But that was on the outside, and something else was happening on the inside. There, the left side of Byrne's brain was high-fiving the right. There, Byrne realizes Dennis Franchione's silly secret newsletters are a godsend.

Byrne can't lose now, even if the Aggies do.

Byrne would trade this can't-lose position for a winning one. He'd prefer Franchione would simply earn his $2 million annual salary.

Byrne would prefer Franchione was currently defending a conference championship or two and exciting his fan base. If Franchione were doing that, then Thursday's news conference would have been entirely different.

Challenge, quiet appeals to archers

Major store chains and mail-order specialists such as Cabelas can be a good resource but, Borows said, the bow itself should be fitted at a pro shop. Large stores may give the impression that this is the least expensive way to begin, but the hunter may find himself shooting with a bow that is not fitted to him, less-favorable arrows and a lower quality string material. An unsatisfactory hunting experience and the need to buy a new bow will convince most beginning bowhunters to become customers at an archery pro shop, he said.

Mark Finne has been in the business of supplying bowhunters with properly fitted bows for more than 15 years. Located at 485 Spring Valley Road in Delhi, Finne's shop is called Spring Valley Sportsman, and he emphasized what Borows said about the importance of a pro-shop setup.

Do netroots types really think that Al Gore, if he ran for President, would commit to getting U.S. troops out of Iraq by 2013 (unlike Edwards or Obama or Hillary Clinton)? I don't. ... 6:37 P.M.

Prius, The Silent Killer--Update: If the government requires that Toyota Priuses and other quiet electric vehicles make a noise to warn pedestrians to get out of the way, won't that create a lucrative market for Prius ringtones? And what kind of noise would be a) distinctive enough to identify the presence of a car, yet b) quiet enough to make a crowd of Priuses tolerable--yet c) not drive Prius owners insane? Get Brian Eno on the case right now. ... P.S.: Maybe some sort of long whale-call tone? ... P.P.S.: Alert reader L.A. suggests "windchimes on the antennaes." Might fail (c).

Ron Paul Controversy; Israeli Rabbis; Haditha; Fox Business

About 6,300 viewers watch the Fox Business Network, on average, on any given weekday, according to estimates from Nielsen Media Research.

CNBC attracted about 283,000 viewers each weekday during the first two months that Fox was on the air, according to Nielsen figures reported by the New York Times.

The low ratings for Fox Business are not surprising for the upstart channel. For one thing, CNBC reaches about 90 million homes, while Fox Business is available in about 30 million.

But Fox Business reached 9,000 viewers during the week of Dec. 10, the last for which figures were available, and its parent News Corporation remains confident.

"In an advertising campaign that has sprawled across television screens, billboards and magazine pages, the News Corporation has sought to hitch the fortunes of Fox Business directly to Fox News Channel, which draws millions of viewers a day," according to the Times.
