Valley needs to have two hospital systems

The Mahoning Valley needs two hospital systems. Recent developments will help ensure that our local health care will remain, well, healthy.

Financially struggling Forum Health reached a one-year contract settlement with the Ohio Nurses Association/Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association. The union represents approximately 600 registered nurses at Northside and Beeghly medical centers.

The union previously had issued, then rescinded, a strike notice. A strike, or a contract unfavorable to management, could have spelled doom for Forum. The system teeters on bankruptcy while it seeks a buyer. The contract, which the union termed concessionary, keeps Forum marketable. That is also, strange as it sounds, good news for Forums chief competitor, Humility of Mary Health Partners.
